What are those pages? In Tridion 2013 you can call ICoreService2013.DecommissionPublicationTarget method which will quickly mark everything that was published with particular publication target as unpublished. You can then write a script to delete the pages through any public API. Manipulating the database directly will give you way more troubles than you ...

In R5.3, you cannot set bindings differently per publication in the same configuration file. As Pankaj pointed out you can set both file system and database bindings for the same publication BUT from the same configuration you cannot vary the bindings for different sites. If you want to do this, you'll need different CD instances with their own ...

Yes you can manage that through your cd_broker_conf.xml by assigning appropriate binding. Please take note of the following from the R5.3 SP1 manual regarding what all you can store on FS and what all you can store on DB: For further details, I would recommend you to go thorugh the Content Delivery Implementation Guide that you can download from SDL Tridion ...

I would be suspicious of DFS. If it is copying the files too often, you will trigger unnecessary recompiles, and therefore application restarts. You can investigate this by using perfmon and adding some ASP.NET counters, specifically CompilationsTotal and ApplicationRestarts. Then just check if the results correlate with your performance dropouts.

Version 0 - also sometimes visible in CME URLs as tcm:1-2-3-v0 - is the editable version of an item. Each item that is currently checked-out will have a record with this version number in the database and everytime you hit Save (not Save & Close), this version will be updated. Once you click Save & Close, a new major version will be created with the ...

First of all you should subscribe to TransactionComitted phase - this is the phase in which you can be sure that operation succeeded. I have just checked it on my system and it is working like a charm. I suspect the problem is that your component has no corresponding dynamic component template and is not actually published, so no event triggered. I don't ...

in cd_broker_conf.xml you have section like following. <Storage> <Database Type="sql"> <Pool Type="jdbc" Size="5" MonitorInterval="60" IdleTimeout="120" CheckoutTimeout="120" /> <DataSource Class="com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDataSource"> <Property Name="serverName" Value="db"/> ...

If you want to sync your Production environment back to Dev and Test and need it to be an exact copy, then the best thing you can do is make a backup of the Production CMS database and restore that on the Dev envrionment. The only thing you will miss at that point is the what is actually published (the published state is there, but the actual files on your ...

If those two Publications are Published to the same Target, then you could use a Custom Resolver, if the Targets are different for those Publications, then I think you can only accomplish it through the Event System. The benefits of using the Event System will be visibility, you add an additional Publish Transaction which shows up in the Publish Queue. ...

There is a known issue with the Business Connector with Java v6. According to the online documentation (login required): The Business Connector does not work with Java 6 if msvcr71.dll is not accessible from the system path This is caused by a known bug with Java: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6509291 The online docs describe ...

Given that: 5.3 Event Systems are written in COM+/VB6 (or COM-visible .NET assemblies) The COM+ Event System has been deprecated in Tridion 2011 You are likely to upgrade to 2011 or 2013 rather than 2009 on your next system upgrade Custom resolvers haven't changed that much since 5.3 and are written with TOM.NET My preferred option would be to use a Custom ...

There are quite a few things that can be checked. Its clear that there is a difference in the servers themselves or the way they are operating. Assuming they are just the same specs then I would look at: The deployed application; are all the files the right versions The configuration; caching on in all places? Is the config the same? Is the network on the ...

At the core of your goal, you need to move your millions of items sources from the filesystem into the database. You can either choose to do that using the tridion mechanisms (i.e. publishing), or you can write your own migration scripts that take the contents of the filesystem files and insert them into the correct DB tables. I would be very carefull in ...

Speak to SDL Tridion support for an approved script. Alternatively, you could write a core service / business connector script to unpublish, and then delete each page in a supported approach. Performing this directly on the database is not supported / ever advisable.

Another, less technical, option is to publish from a Blueprint parent and then choose to publish all children. This assumes that: 1. You have a Blueprint parent that contains the Pages / Components to be published 2. Publishing to child Publications will not publish to other non-desired Publications If you were using Tridion 2011 (I know you're not ...

The output of the templates is slightly different from the old ones. I suggest you check how the default templates are actually being used on your websites (they are quite ugly, so I would be surprised if they were actually used on your live sites). Perhaps the one to be most concerned about is the Default TBB which had functions that could be used by other ...

Probably because the file is not yet saved, and therefore Tridion can't determine its size? You could try something like this instead: MemoryStream ImageStream = new MemoryStream(Component.Multimedia.GetBinaryContent()); MMImage = Image.FromStream(ImageStream); Component.MetadataFields[IMAGE_WIDTH_FIELD].value[1] = MMImage.Size.Width.ToString(); UPDATE I ...

I would also add Angel Puntero's Snipt blog to the other answers to this question. He has consolidated a large number of useful Tridion related code snippets from a variety of sources including StackOverflow and the blogs listed in Bart's answer.

issue identified: there was an extra Tridion box in the development environment installed (for the sake of testing the roll-out procedure), that shared the same database. The server/publisher service was still running, and was picking (randomly, of course) publishing actions from the other CMS box. We disabled the publisher of the second box, and issue was ...

Your question asks for documentation based on versions" From 2011 upwards all SDL Tridion (and other related products) are online here: http://sdllivecontent.sdl.com/LiveContent/web/ui.xql?action=html&resource=login.html&destination= Note: A log in is required. Thanks to all for responding, got this issue fixed by installing the Hotfix Rollup SDLTridion2011SP1HR#2.

You mention that your component is Dynamic. This means that it is published independently within its own context. I am going to take a guess that you're using Context Variables to pass data between Page and Component Presentation scopes. This works when the page is published with statically embedded Component Presentations, not Dynamic ones. The reason ...

I would look at the published data instead of getting it from the CM. It looks that other component is using same name in same folder in blueprint hierarchy, and original component has been renamed with different name. In your case maintenance people has updated the name that's why it is showing you original name in master publication. Suggestion is rename the another component which you have found in blueprint folder and ...

On top of Nick's answer... If you want to pass information from Page to Dynamic Component Presentation, I recommend you do it on the Presentation Server, at request time. Have a look at the following blog posts to see examples of a specific use-case. You can apply the same generic approach to pass any other parameter: http://sdltridionworld.com/articles/...
