Schemas are used to define the structure of content.
The structure of content and metadata is defined using Schemas. You create Schemas to define the structure and allowed content for the following types of items:
- Components
- Multimedia Components
- Metadata that can be associated with Publications, Folders, Structure Groups, Pages, Page and Component Templates, Categories and Keywords
- Embeddable Schemas that can be used to define standard content that may be used in more than one Schema
- Parameter Schemas, which define the parameter data required by a Template Building Block when invoked within a Compound Template.
If a schema follows a series of Tridion-specific guidelines, it is called a "Tridion Web Schema" and the Tridion Content Management Explorer can be used to edit components based on this schema.
