What is a good strategy to doperform error free content porting?

I am trying to doport content porting from one environment sayto another: Dev to Stage environmentfor example.

I am using SDL Tridion 2011 SP1. I am using SDL Content porter 2009 SP1.

The content sync has not been done from long time. Earlier both these environments were in sync. Now and now there isare major difference indifferences between both environments. The The blue printing has not changed.

Now I am thinking of using one of the following options to do the porting. As so many users are using the Stage environment, I do not want to disturb their work.

1. Import all data from Dev to stage as altogether new.
    i. import all components into new folder without disturbing the current components
ii. Once components are imported, replace the old components with new components
iii. Follow same rule to Templates and pages.

Query: Here at last I am importing all pages. Not sure will these pages still map to new components or not. Because I will be having duplicate of each component but situated in different folders:

2. Import all pages directly

Query: Not sure of the errors that will come. I doubt if it can affect Stage environment

Query: Not sure which errors might come up with this approach. I doubt if it can affect the Stage environment. Is this viable?

If the above strategies are not correct, please suggest me a good strategy to doperform error free porting.

Thanks in Advance.
