As usual in Service-Oriented Architectures such as CIL/CIS, the client and server versions are rather loosely coupled. That is: there is not a 1:1 relationship between the CIL and CIS versions you can use together. On the other hand, you also cannot expect any CIL version to be 100% compatible with any CIS version. In general, backwards compatibility can be ...

Your web application uses a client library (think of it as a "SDK") which talks to the webservices. The Web Application and the Web Services can scale independently of each other. You don't need licensing on the web application, making your auto-scaling a reality if you really want to. This graph looks scary, but it's only for a minute until you realize it ...

CMEnvironmentId needs to be the same across all scaled out instances. Even if their roles are different like the coreservice, publisher, workflow agent. The CMEnvironmentId is kept the same using the database name and DB server name. Double check the TRIDION_CM_ENVIRONMENT_ID and Get-TtmCmEnvironment cmdlet to check the CoreServiceCredentials details and ...

Why do you say that the ComponentPresentationFactory is not good enough, what difficulty did you encounter? I'm guessing the "conditions" part, so my answer will be towards that. To achieve what you want, you need to make use of the Criteria API in combination with the ComponentPresentationFactory or ComponentPresentationAssembler. The Criteria API will ...

There shouldn't be any problem in consuming Tridion (or XO) content in an external web application. To incorporate content, you can either call any of the Content Delivery API functions from within your web app, to retrieve component presentations etc. You can also configure ADF and use this in your web app, by adding the jars, and setting up the web.xml so ...
